What Matters Most in a Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo?
Summary
Almost every combo robot can mop. The real differences are what the robot does with a wet pad when it reaches a rug, and who cleans the pads afterward. If you have carpet, look closely at mop lifting and carpet avoidance. If you plan to mop every day, check whether the dock washes, dries, and refills. Without that, rinsing pads becomes your chore.
What happens at the rug
A wet pad dragged across a rug leaves it damp and can spread dirt. Robots handle this in different ways: some lift the pads and keep going, some detect carpet and steer around it, and some rely on carpet zones you draw in the app. With thick or shaggy rugs, lifting alone may not be enough.
How the pads scrub
The eufy X10 Pro Omni spins two pads at 180 RPM with about 1 kg of downward pressure. The Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 uses Sonic Mopping, scrubbing hard floors 100 times per minute while it vacuums. Sticky kitchen spills and a light dusting are different jobs, so think about which one you are buying for.
What the dock handles
Some docks only empty the bin. Others also wash and dry the mop pads, and some refill the robot's water tank too. The eufy X10 Pro Omni station does all of those. The Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo recognizes floor types and switches between vacuuming and mopping, and its SmartThings app lets you split rooms and set no-go zones.
Who gets the most out of a combo
Homes with large hard-floor areas, especially kitchens and dining rooms, benefit most. If most of the house is thick carpet, a vacuum-only robot with stronger carpet performance may be the better buy.
