Is It Safe to Use a Robot Mop on Hardwood Floors?
Summary
Usually, on sealed hardwood, as long as the robot uses a modest amount of water. The final word belongs to your flooring manufacturer's care instructions, though. Some finishes, such as oiled or unsealed wood, are not meant to be wet-mopped at all. If yours can be, look for adjustable water flow and the ability to switch mopping off room by room.
Check the floor before the robot
Fine water control on the robot does not help if the finish cannot handle moisture. Look up the manufacturer's guidance first. For rooms where wet mopping is not recommended, you can turn mopping off in the app or mark the area as a no-go zone and let the robot vacuum only.
Grit scratches too
Water is not the only risk. Fine sand dragged across the floor leaves small scratches, so strong fine-debris pickup and good edge cleaning matter before mopping even starts. A dirty pad spreads grime rather than removing it, so plan on keeping pads clean, either by hand or with a washing dock.
How current models control mopping
The eufy X10 Pro Omni mops with two rotating pads, and its station washes and dries them. Its app map (AI.Map 2.0) supports no-go zones. The Samsung Bespoke Jet Bot Combo detects floor types and switches between vacuuming and mopping, and its SmartThings app lets you mark areas to skip. The Shark Matrix Plus 2-in-1 scrubs hard floors with Sonic Mopping while it vacuums.
When a combo makes sense
If most of your home is sealed hardwood or other hard flooring, one robot that vacuums and lightly mops saves real effort. Put a dock that holds water on a mat or a water-tolerant spot rather than directly on bare wood, so a drip or condensation doesn't mark the floor. If the floors are water-sensitive, a vacuum-only robot plus occasional hand mopping is the safer setup.
