Use the manufacturer's page to confirm features and compatibility, independent lab tests for measured cleaning, noise and obstacle handling, and Reddit or other owner forums for the problems that show up after months of use. In every case, start by making sure the review covers the exact model and generation you're looking at.

Get the model right first

Similar names are common even within one brand. Shark's self-emptying lineup alone, as listed on Shark's site in September 2026, includes the PowerDetect UV Reveal, the PowerDetect ThermaCharged, and the PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro, which differ in features and price. Look up the exact model number on the official page before you read reviews, so you don't pin another robot's verdict on the one you're considering.

Suction claims don't line up across brands

Manufacturers don't measure the same way. eufy rates the X10 Pro Omni at 8,000 Pa, a pressure figure, while iRobot describes the Roomba 105 Vac as having "70X more power-lifting suction" than its own Roomba 600 series. Instead of ranking robots on those numbers, look for independent tests that measure the situations you care about under the same conditions: carpet, hard floor, hair, edges, and obstacles.

Read owner posts for patterns

Is the same defect or maintenance complaint coming up from several different owners?
When was it posted, and which generation of the model does it describe?
Is it the kind of issue a software update could fix, or does it come from the hardware?

A problem that many people describe is more likely to happen to you than one dramatic story. For anything about specs, such as floor types or room limits, go back to the manufacturer's page to confirm.
