What's Different About Matic, the Robot Vacuum That Navigates by Camera?

Published · By the BotLineup editors · Prices and specs as of that date, from the pages under Sources

Summary

Matic builds a 3D map with five cameras and uses it to tell floors apart: it vacuums rugs and vacuums then mops tile and other hard floors. Maps and cleaning data are processed on the robot itself, with no cloud required. It also skips the big self-emptying base; dirt and used mop water go into the same bag. The price is $1,495 on maticrobots.com as of September 24, 2026.

Mapping with cameras

Five RGB-IR cameras angled at 45 degrees capture both color and infrared light, so Matic says it can map and clean in low light or darkness. Matic says a 3,000 sq ft home maps in under 20 minutes and that you don't need to tidy up first; we'd still lift thin cords and anything you'd hate to see tangled in a brush.

Matic says it spots objects as small as half an inch high or wide, such as wires, toys, and stray socks. Pet waste avoidance is still in beta.

Rugs stay dry

In Vacuum + Mop mode, Matic vacuums everywhere first and then mops only the hard floors. The mop stays fully off rugs and carpet, so they don't get wet. The 600 mL water tank covers up to 800 sq ft of mopping.

Your data stays home

Camera feeds, audio, maps, and cleaning history stay on the robot by default and are processed there. When you use the app away from home, Matic's servers relay an encrypted connection that the company says it can't read.

A charging-only dock

The dock is small and only charges the robot; there's no self-emptying base. Debris collects in a HEPA-12 bag on the robot, and dirty mop water goes into the same bag, where it turns to gel. The app tells you when the bag is full or the tank is low, and you swap or refill them yourself.
