Do You Really Need a Robot Vacuum That Mops?
Summary
Not if most of your floors are carpet or rugs, or if you already mop by hand or with a steam mop. A vacuum-only robot also means no water tank to fill and no mop pads to wash. If you want the kitchen and dining room hard floors wiped every day, though, a combo robot that vacuums and mops in one run is the better match.
When vacuum-only fits
In a home with lots of thick rugs and carpet, you don't have to worry about a wet mop pad crossing onto them. And if you handle wet cleaning yourself, there's little reason to pay for a robot to do it.
When a combo makes more sense
If you have large hard-floor areas and deal with daily spills and footprints, look at combo robots that lift their mop pads on carpet and docks that wash and dry the pads. Expect more upkeep in return: refilling clean water and emptying dirty water.
What still matters without a mop
- Brushes suited to your floors
- Mapping and room-by-room cleaning
- Obstacle avoidance
- A self-emptying dock and how long it holds debris
- How easy filters and replacement parts are to find
