What Should You Check Before Buying a Hayward or Pentair Pool Robot?

Summary

Pentair splits its robots by pool type: the Prowler 930W and 920 are for inground pools, and the 910 is for above-ground pools. Hayward's TigerShark (RC9950CUB) is an inground cleaner sold only through pool professionals or in store as part of Hayward's Expert Line. With either brand, pick the model number that matches your pool and confirm the warranty terms with the seller before you buy.

Pentair: pick by pool type

The Prowler line covers inground pools with the 930W and 920 and above-ground pools with the 910. All of them have a top-access filter basket and run on their own low-voltage power, so you don't need a booster pump. With the 930W, the app lets you schedule cleaning, spot clean a problem area, or delay a cycle from your phone.

Hayward TigerShark: check where you buy it and the warranty

The RC9950CUB is built for inground pools and cleans the floor, walls, coves, and waterline. A standard cycle takes four hours, and the pleated cartridge filter rinses clean with a hose. The manual lists a 55 ft cable and says to keep the power supply at least 10 ft from the pool's edge.

Hayward classes it as an Expert Line product, available only through your local pool professional or in store. The warranty depends on which document you read: the product page lists three years on parts when sold by a Hayward Rewards partner, while the manual gives one year for residential robotic cleaners and three years for the TigerShark Plus and TigerShark QC. Several TigerShark versions share the name, so confirm the exact model number and warranty with the dealer.
